What was the Best TV Show of 2013?
Okay, so we watched CatFish - the movie a few years ago, and loved it. If you haven't checked it out, you must! It doesn't exactly promote social media, quite the opposite - but it is a brilliant watch. It is a documentary about a NY photographer called Nev Schulman who makes friends who falls in love with a girl from the other side of the country. They are essentially in a long distance relationship. If you want to watch the film, stop now, spoilers follow.
Due to work commitments, it turns out that Nev and his filmmaker brother will be travelling the country and ending up quite near to where his girlfriend lives. Having never met her, he decides to surprise her with a visit. Well, as you my guess - when he turns up she is not who she said she was. It's incredibly awkward. But Nev shines as a great human being in the way he deals with the potentially awful situation.
Due to the success of the film, MTV commissioned Nev to do a TV show of the same principle. His inbox became flooded with people claiming to be online relationships based solely on social media! He then meets these people and helps them meet their online partners - and of course there are some big surprises. It really is an amazing show. Nev is arguably the world's nicest man, and I want to be best friends with him. This may make me sound like a crazy stalker, but if you watch it - I think you'll relate!
