The Dumble-dos (and Don’ts) of Digital Marketing Wizardry

Much like what lies beyond the Leaky Cauldron, Businesses who venture boldly into the “Realm of Internet” will find a Magical World many still don’t know about. So pull yourself a Butter Beer, have a little sit-down and join us as we take you through the Dumble-dos (and don’ts) of Digital Marketing Wizardry…

The Digital landscape is a perilous and unforgiving place full of dark places where evil beings lurk, vast, bottomless crags and nefarious seas. But for those bold enough to venture onward into the abyss, glory awaits. Or, awesome results. Whatever you deem more necessary. Whether you are a Social Networking Sorcerer, a Content Marketing Conjuror, or an Account Managing Alchemist, these top-tips are sure to help you breach the Azkaban-esque walls of Digital Marketing.

DUMBLE-DO: Care for every aspect of the Deathly Hallows

Unlike the actual Deathly Hallows which were rendered useless when Harry decided to snap the Elder Wand in half (oh yeah, spoiler alert), the Digital Marketing Deathly Hallows are available to everyone. These are as follows: Your Website, Your Content, and Your Social Media. The issue is, most people will favour one over the others and will naturally neglect the rest. That is a recipe for disaster. It takes awesome Social Media to win followers, awesome Content to win clicks on Social Media, and an awesome Website to convert those clicks. When used together, these three can help any business take control of their Digital destiny and command unprecedented results. If you try to cast a spell on your audience with a broken wand, be prepared to eat slugs.

DUMBLE-DO: Take a little drop of Felix Felicis

Sometimes it pays to take a few risks. If you’ve taken the time out to analyse your audience, your competitors and what content works, then you can try a new style of campaign. You are far more likely to be lucky if you’ve done your research and understand what you’re dealing with. Don’t be afraid to change your voice on Digital Marketing – it was made for humans by humans and so it’s a whole different game of Quidditch to other traditional Marketing channels.

DUMBLE-DO: Spend a little time underneath the Sorting Hat

However sure you are that you know who your audience are. Social Media may reveal some insights about your products that may surprise you. If you find that your network is growing organically among a user-group you wouldn’t have initially expected, use this knowledge to your advantage. Social Media can give brilliant insights into your consumer base. Unless it is blatantly obvious, you should never dismiss this growth as a targeting failure.

DUMBLE-DO: Keep your eye out for Golden Snitch

The Digital Marketing Golden Snitch is an elusive little blighter. When you post new content, always micro-analyse to see if you can catch a glimpse of Gold in it. That way you can be sure that you are flying your broom in the right direction.

DUMBLE-DON’T: Be drawn in by Trolls

We’ve all been there. There’s a troll in the dungeon and he’s scaring off all of your party guests. Complaints and frustration by consumers is to be expected on Social Networks. No matter how hard it is to resist, no matter how many bogies they are smearing all over your hard work, don’t get confrontational. Trolls fight fire with fire, but confront them with humility and usually they don’t know what to do. Eventually they will get bored and leave. In fact, reacting the right way could really help you; many producers have managed to turn negative posts by their consumers into positive PR by not only responding, but reacting to them.

DUMBLE-DON’T: Blow up the Classroom

Everything you do should be entertaining, interesting and offer value to your customers. Make sure that you don’t start posting content that goes against the voice you’ve been using that has been working. You’ve spent precious time building a fan-base of Witches and Wizards who care enough about your business and products to want to hear more. If suddenly they find out that you’re as phoney as Gilderoy Lockhart, they are likely to get disillusioned and stop caring.

DUMBLE-DON’T: Spend too much time in the Library

As ironic as it is for us to give you this tip on a Social Media blog, don’t rely entirely on what’s written on the Internet. There are too many so-called Digital Marketing Wizards out there who look genuine, but scratch beneath the surface and you’ll discover that they’re nothing more than a Muggle with a way with words. There has never been a one-size-fits-all method to nailing Digital Marketing – discover what works for you.

There you have it humble reader. Our Dumble-dos (and don’ts) of Digital Marketing Wizardry. As a wise man once said, “It does not to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” So stop thinking about it, get out there, and make it happen for your business.
