These days it is extremely likely that you are already on Linkedin looking for that perfect job or career, whether you are already employed, a graduate or still at university. However, some individuals currently don’t realise the importance of social media in the hunt for a job and my advice for those people is as follows… If you’re currently job searching and not on Linkedin, I suggest you grab your laptop or iPad, sit down, sign up and start networking!

 

There are many tips for enhancing your chances of getting a job on Linkedin and there are other tips for networking in general that can help lead to potential jobs in the future. So in the hope of kick-starting your career or placing you in good stead for future opportunities, I have picked out the top 5 tips that will help you on your way to getting a job through the increasingly popular professional network.

 

1. Complete your Linkedin profile 

This is top priority. Having a completely up-to-date Linkedin profile is vital for potential employers or recruitment advisors that want to see the best of you. A completed profile allows recruiters to contact you easily for a role they may be currently recruiting for. As with any recruitment method, the more information you give, the better the job suggestions will be that matches your preferred career choice. For example, if you’re looking for a job in Social Media, make sure your blog and any other relevant social media profiles are  listed in your profile.

2. Grow your network 

Making sure that you have as many colleagues, ex-colleagues and friends connected to your profile can be excellent for networking purposes. You can remain in contact with those from your past but also use this as an opportunity to develop your future. With the help of your friends you can remain up-to-date with fresh positions in your first level of connections. One thing to note is you need not worry if this seems to be taking a long time, growing your network can be a long process but it is something that is definitely worth the wait.

Networking with your connections and other people on Linkedin is a great way to learn and consequently generate more connections within your own network. Use Linkedin as an opportunity to start and join groups, join discussions and interact through Q&A’s for maximum exposure of your profile.

5. Linkedin Jobs 

Linkedin Jobs is the final step when you have a complete profile and you’re ready to start contacting companies regarding their current vacancies. Linkedin Jobs is free with an option to upgrade for premium features, these include extras such as the salary feature amongst others. However the basic edition is perfect when you know what type of job you are looking for.
